Arnie is Of Counsel to Schlissel Ostrow Karabatos, PLLC after having been a partner in the matrimonial boutique of Koopersmith Klein LLC from 2004 – 2014. Arnie has been practicing for more than thirty-seven years, handling exclusively matrimonial and family law matters for the past eleven years. Prior to focusing on matrimonial law, Arnie’s practice areas included complex commercial litigation. He is a graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook (B.A. 1974) and New York Law School (J.D. 1977, cum laude), where he graduated in the top 5% of his class, was selected to represent the school in the National Moot Court Competition and was honored by being elected to the National Order of Barristers.
Arnie’s matrimonial, trial and appellate work has included matters resulting in published appellate decisions, including Gordon v. Gordon, 113 A.D.3d 654, 979 N.Y.S.2d 121 (2d Dep’t 2014) and Steinberg v. Steinberg, 59 A.D.3d 702, 874 N.Y.S.2d 230 (2d Dep’t 2009).
Arnie has the highest rating of “AV” from Martindale-Hubbell, was appointed to serve as an Early Neutral Evaluator for the New York Federal Courts, and served on the faculty of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy for more than a decade specializing in teaching young lawyers how to take and defend depositions. He has also been appointed to and serves as a member of the panel of lawyers who arbitrate fee disputes in matrimonial and other matters in accordance with Part 137 of the Rules of the Chief Administrator of the New York Courts. He is currently an active member of the New York State Bar Association, the Nassau County Bar Association (and its Matrimonial Law Committee), and the New York Family Law American Inn of Court.
Arnie has lived with his family in Port Washington, New York for more than thirty years, where he is a member of one of the most active local environmental groups in the State of New York, Residents For A More Beautiful Port Washington.
