Joseph A. DeMarco
Joseph DeMarco is a partner at Schlissel Ostrow Karabatos, PLLC. He is a 1997 graduate of Wake Forest University, cum laude, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree. Joseph received his Juris Doctor degree from Tulane Law School in 2001, where he was an editor for the Journal of International and Comparative Law.
Prior to joining the firm, Joseph was first a summer intern for the Honorable Peter B. Skelos, and the next summer worked as an intern for the predecessor to Schlissel Ostrow Karabatos, PLLC. He joined the firm in August, 2001 and was admitted to the New York State Bar in February, 2002. Since that time, Joseph has practiced exclusively in matrimonial and family law, and his experience includes the handling of matters involving complex equitable distribution, support, and child custody issues and appellate work. Joe assisted the firm in the matter of Prichep v. Prichep, 52 A.D.3d 61, 858 N.Y.S.2d 667 (2d Dept. 2008), a significant decision that further solidified the rights of non-monied spouses to receive counsel fee awards.
Joe attended the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers Institute for Training New Associates Advanced Program in 2004 and 2006. Joe has lectured on matrimonial law topics for the Nassau County Bar Association and Practicing Law Institute, and since 2007, he has been an adjunct instructor in the Legal Studies Department at Nassau Community College, teaching courses in business law and law office management.
Joe is also active in the community, including volunteer work as a mentor at the Alberta B. Gray Schultz middle school in Hempstead, New York. Joseph also provides pro bono legal services through the Volunteer Lawyers Project of Nassau County. He also served as a member of the Lions Club, has assisted in the administration of the PEACE Program of Nassau County, and is currently a member of the Columbian Lawyers and We Care’s Italian Feast Committee.
Joe is a member of the American Bar Association (Family Law Section), the New York State Bar Associate, and the Columbian Lawyers of Nassau County. He is an active member of the Nassau County Bar Association’s Matrimonial and Family Law Committee, and has, for over four years, contributed to its monthly update.
