Jennifer is a member of the firm of Schlissel Ostrow Karabatos, PLLC. She was admitted to the Bar in December 1998. She is a graduate of the State University of New York at Albany (magna cum laude; Phi Beta Kappa) and Brooklyn Law School (magna cum laude). Upon her graduation from Brooklyn Law School, Jennifer was the recipient of the West Publishing Company Award for outstanding Overall Scholastic Achievement and the Judge Nathan R. Sobel Prize. While at Brooklyn Law School, Jennifer was a member of the Brooklyn Law Review, on which she served as an Associate Managing Editor for 1997-1998. Jennifer was a summer associate with Meltzer, Lippe, Goldstein, Wolf & Schlissel, P.C. (the matrimonial department of which was a predecessor firm of Schlissel Ostrow Karabatos, PLLC) during the summer of 1997 and continued as a law clerk from September 1997 through the date of her admission to the Bar. Since her admission to the Bar, she has practiced almost exclusively in matrimonial and family law, assisting in the preparation and trial of complex custody and equitable distribution cases.
Prior to joining the firm, Jennifer interned in the Family Court of New York State, New York County and at the Legal Aid Society, Family Law Unit in Brooklyn, New York. She is also acknowledged in the second edition of the two-volume work, Separation Agreements and Marital Contracts and credited with contributing to that work. She is a co-author of multiple articles which have been published in the Family Advocate, a journal of the American Bar Association Family Law Section, the Journal of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyer, New York Family Law Monthly, and the Nassau Lawyer. Jennifer has also lectured on numerous matrimonial and family law topics at the Nassau County Bar Association, the Suffolk County Bar Association, and the New York Family Law Inn of Court.
Jennifer is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. She served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Nassau County Bar Association for three years. She is a Past Chair of the Matrimonial Law Committee of the Nassau County Bar Association. She created and chairs the Rising Stars subcommittee of the Matrimonial Law Committee, a subcommittee for attorneys practicing family and/or matrimonial law for ten years or less. She is a member of the Matrimonial Special Masters Panel in Nassau County and an arbitrator for the Attorney Client Fee Arbitration Program in the 10th Judicial District. She was named a Top Ten Leader in Divorce Law – Under 45, Long Island, New York from 2014 through 2020 and a Top Ten Leader in Divorce Law – Long Island, New York from 2021-2025. She has been selected as a “Super Lawyer – New York Metro” each year since 2015. She is rated AV Preeminent Rated (4.8 out of 5) by Martindale-Hubbell.
Jennifer is a member of the New York State Bar Association, the Nassau County Bar Association, the Nassau County Women’s Bar Association, and the New York Family Law American Inn of Court. She is a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, a trial lawyer honorary society whose membership is limited to less than one-half of one percent of North American lawyers, judges and scholars. Fellowship is by invitation only. Fellows are selected based upon excellence and accomplishment in litigation, both at the trial and appellate levels, and superior ethical reputation.
